stream problems with iphones and apple in general

not sure if it's true, but might be worth having a look

I tested listening to multiple streams on iPhone 8 and could hear them all. Only thing I noticed is that the VU meters only showed green on very loud sounds, nothing for the background music and normal talking.

what we noticed: on iphones, streams coming from the following user agents were visible: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:98.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/98.0 Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.12; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

but these ones were not: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/99.0.4844.84 Safari/537.36 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/99.0.4844.74 Safari/537.36 Edg/99.0.1150.55

Interestingly, on my mac's safari the streams that worked fine on iphone were visible (could see video) but there was no sound

nevermind the previous post, when testing a stream made from my windows PC I noticed that:

  • if it's a video+sound stream, the iphone simulator can see/hear correctly
  • if it's a sound only stream, it's silent

It's likely that this is a bug in our code, rather than a codec issue or anything
