Feature request: support Universal Control displays

Open reuben opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

Describe the solution you'd like macOS 12.3/iPadOS 15.4 finally released the Universal Control feature where you can control multiple Macs and iPads with a single keyboard/trackpad/mouse. It would be nice to be able to focus those displays with Amethyst shortcuts. I don't know if it's possible API wise, and you can't move windows into other machines, but at least being able to quickly focus and send the cursor to a display/machine connected via Universal Control would be pretty nice.

Describe alternatives you've considered Alternative solution is manually switching focus to the nearest display and then manually dragging the cursor across the display boundary.

Firstly, ‘universal control’ works only with one ipad and one additional mac or two macs at a time. Secondly, there are many solutions which worked and working last 20 years, and allows you to connect much more than two macs. And at the end, I don’t see how Amethyst is correlated to ‘univeral control’, it just doesn’t make even a bit of sense. Haven’t tried it, but I believe there must be a system shortcut for that, if not, you need to check scripting solutions, maybe something like hammerspoon / apple script will do the job.

Not being able to move windows makes a lot of sense, but I think wanting to focus the other iPad/Mac is a reasonable ask. Not sure what the screen APIs look like for it.

+1 for this feature request. Would love to keyboard shortcut the mouse focus from one mac to another mac. Having to use the mouse to switch machines is a bit of friction that would be awesome to change.
