Avoid image double display when user rapidly click the thumbnail

Thanks for your contribution! While it does seem to fix the "lingering image" issue, it affects the behavior of the animations which may not be desirable by folks. For that reason (the change of behavior), I'm going to opt to not merge at this time. Since activity on this project is so low, I'll just leave the PR open for future folks to peak if needed.
