Weapons Selection/Customisation Interface

Open hwgprojects opened this issue 10 years ago • 5 comments

Ive been playing various modern FPS games recently, and I thought that a weapon/loadout selection screen would be a good idea. How I envisaged it: (Basic Example, Sample Render Gun of Mine, stuff missing)

customisation

I can't really implement it (Am a noob, obviously), but I thought I'd get it out there!

Obviously the attachment options could affect the way the weapon looks/behaves. AFAIK this is dependent on a new weapons framework though.

I'm personally not a massive fan of these kinds of systems, and prefer instead to have the base gun be a solid, balanced weapon (possibly with some unique ability, like the shotgun's alt-fire). However, I'll certainly take this into consideration with the upcoming weapon changes so it wouldn't be a hackfuck to add things like this.

@rakiru Sounds like a good idea.

@rakiru Is there any progress on the Weapons framework?

What about a loadout system too? I noticed that 5 guns - rifle, Lee, SMG, Shotgun and Flamethrower already take a lot of space on screen in selection menu, so that needs to be changed badly, because 10 guns wont fit. I suggest doing something similar to loadout system Urban Terror has. I know "copying" other games isn't very good, but this system has been tested for at least 10 years. It's fast, it's practical, it's flexible. You are able to choose weapons, pistols, grenades, accesories very easily. Press (N) while playing. Weapons Menu pops up. There are 7 fields: Main weapon, Secondary, Sidearm, Grenade, 3xAccessory slots. (i'm not saying that it should be the same in IB, i'm just briefing what you see). urbanterror You click on a field, which takes you to select an item for that field. E.g. after clicking Main weapon field, you can select your weapon. When hovering above a weapon image, you can see its informantion. Upon clicking the image, you select the weapon and are instantly taken back to Weapons menu. Click "Close" or press Esc to close the menu and apply changes. If you just spawned and didn't move, you can still change your weapons. Full loadout change takes not more than 5 seconds once you get used to it, thanks to the images. Also possible to use keyboard instead of mouse. I'm linking the rest to imgur, because I did ~5 images 1280x1024.
