[Feature request]: Table of figures
The same way that we have a .tableofcontents, it would be great to have a .tableoffigures
Cheers!
@lainwir3d genuinely curious, is this widely used? Do you have any real-world examples? I have never seen it and I'm not sure if it's popular enough to add support for it.
I've seen it quite often but I admit I don't know if it's popular or not. I've used it in documents before and I think it's quite popular for heavily graphed documents (maths documents etc). Don't quote me on that though.
Here is what Mistral LLM says about it:
Tables of figures are indeed commonly used in various types of documents, particularly in academic, technical, and professional writing. They serve several important purposes:
- Navigation: Tables of figures provide a quick reference to all the figures, charts, diagrams, and images in a document, making it easier for readers to locate specific visual information.
- Organization: They help organize the document by listing figures in the order they appear, often along with their corresponding page numbers and titles.
- Professionalism: Including a table of figures can add a level of professionalism and thoroughness to a document, showing that attention has been paid to detail and ease of use.
- Accessibility: For longer documents, a table of figures can improve accessibility, allowing readers to quickly find visual data without having to flip through pages.
- Compliance: In some academic and professional contexts, including a table of figures may be a requirement for compliance with specific formatting guidelines or standards.
Overall, tables of figures are a useful tool for enhancing the usability and professionalism of documents that contain numerous visual elements.

It was just a suggestion though, I will survive without it :-)
