JSONP handling
Can we make callback part of the spec for jsonp handling? A lot providers already do this to help with client Javascript implementations.
Yes! Please do. The lack of jsonp in the spec severely limits its practical use in the browser.
In this day of mobile devices, oembed has the unique attribute of allowing content providers the opportunity to investigate the requesting agent and send back different embedded html as appropriate. Making the call to the content provider from the server-side (when jsonp isn't available) eliminates that opportunity.
