Judging from their documentation it seems VKontakte uses only a handful of (traditional?) custom emoji graphics (mostly animals and smileys) and otherwise old Apple designs.

This is the announcement of the VK emoticons release, which says that the designer does the rendering of the entire set of emojis. All emojis are copyrighted by VK.
