I was thinking about this the other day. If my memory serves me correctly, because the external controller support is built on virtual keyboard presses, we would need to have some function of switching between keyboard and controller.

That would be very nice. I used Delta for NES emulation a little bit. Delta has a support on this, so I'm assuming that this is not technically insurmountable.
