Need for on-display legend to indicate status/relevance/class of inode fragment shown

First off, nice work! Couldn't have been easy. Thank you for that.

I have rummaged thru the documentation and online "reviews" / "demos" to see if there was any indication of the possible range of block coloration possible, or a legend that would indicate the status / relevance / class of each block shown. I did not find anything that was remotely helpful.

So, is it possible to hit a single key that would pop-up a separate window to display that legend? That way, you could move the legend around to allow clear viewing of various segments that are being explored on the block map.

  • Proviso: could that window remain in front of fragview's main window, even if we click or navigate within that main window?

Also, don't know if you considered presenting multiple modes?

Suggested modes:

  • Mode 1: fragmentation status coloration of all blocks related to a given file with the same colour, red (fragemented), green/blue (not fragmented).
  • Mode 2: file type coloration of blocks to show if file is a directory, symbolic link, device, loop, text data, binary data, binary executable, etc.
  • Mode 3: file privileges coloration to show different conditions, such as setuid, setgid, regular, etc.
  • Mode 4: file accessibility coloration to show if only accessible to root, accessible to only group, or accessible to all

Just some ideas, on how to expand the tool to facilitate visual navigation to discover various conditions that might draw attention for investigation.

Yes, I realize that all such are doable with command line functions, but, to be honest, sometimes users (and even administrators) reach a point where they are lazy enough to just want to do click-view-act.

Thank you for your consideration. Eric
