Cannot Import Authenticator from Non Rooted Android
I've been trying to set it up and something fails in the step of backing up files from my Android to Computer.
Here's a screenshot of what I get: http://imgur.com/OuVpcXP
Paste of the error message: http://pastebin.com/eCxb83BU
Device:
OnePlus 2 (not rooted) USB Debugging enabled
Computer:
Windows 10 64-Bit
Have you run into this before? If I could get some help with it that'd be really awesome :)
U are using an old version. Try my latest version https://github.com/hyt47/SteamDesktopAuthenticator-Mod-47/releases/tag/1.0.5.5 or extract your account manually https://github.com/hyt47/SteamDesktopAuthenticator-Mod-47/wiki/Manually-import-your-Steam-Account-from-Android
@hyt47
I tried that one as well and got the same result :(
I will try to replicate your error
For now this app will not be able to import the Authenticator from a non rooted Android. The app has problems extracting files from the ADB backup file (.ab). I tried and failed to fix this, I don't have too much experience with android code.
@andriyetch I don't think this will be fixed soon, and there is no other way to import your account. If you really want to use this app. You will have to remove your Android Authenticator, and add it again on pc, but you will have trade hold 15 days.
If you decide to do this, first take steam guard backup codes https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
In your error log the app didn't find the folder "steamguard" Because the app failed to extract the files from ADB Backup, the folder was not created. With non rooted devices the only way to extract application data is to create an app backup. From the Backup, files are hard to extract...
Hey @hyt47 thanks for actually maintainging this project and answering questions. It sucks that it's impossible to import from non-routed Android. This looked like the only way to have SDA and MobileAuth working simultaneously. I guess root is the only option :(
EDIT: I of course get the same error as @andriyetch
I did some testing with adb backup
that is used to non-root method and I just can't backup steam data properly. I'll try backing up whole phone and will let you know results.
EDIT:
Steam is not backing up at all, even if I do full adb backup using:
adb backup -all
If someone wants to explore it, after doing adb backup you can open it using: https://sourceforge.net/projects/adbextractor/
It requires Java.
You run it using:
java -jar abe.jar unpack <backup_file_name> <desitination_TAR_file_name>
And then untar it to get to specific files.
Thx for info @ursoos
@hyt47 can u help? Can u give me skype or add me?(My skype: niobium101 ) I have .maFile (my account) and I wanted to put another one authenticator to another acc, dragged 2 files from folder to folder and accidentally deleted the json file. Now I just can not log into my account. Please help me.
U don't need the json file. It will be created again by the app.
I am new to this fourm but i do beleve i have found a workaround for non roote devices.theres a app called ice steam client and if you set up authentacator with it you can directly export the authentacator file.
