Nope.

This was a suggestion of @seanh's. I added it here as a way of capturing the thinking, and as a place for discussion. It's an interesting suggestion. Still kind of turning the idea over in my head. What do others think?

For me: Saying No suggests that the focus is primarily a way of featuring the document, while providing the annotation ability as available.

Saying Yes suggests that the focus is primarily a way of showing the annotations, with the document as context. Another vote for Yes is that it makes the annotations obvious for someone less familiar with the app, who otherwise might not even notice that there are annotations there.

Saying yes or no constrains via to serving only one intent.

i.e. that it limits it to the one intent?

I think it favors the one intent, but it doesn't limit it, since the sidebar can be easily opened or closed from the default state. Is that what you were getting at or something else?
