Optionally preserve (carry over) tags for the ensuing annotation

It is tedious to add the same tag to a consecutive series of annotations − vocabulary when reading unfamiliar literary works for instance. I am wondering if it has been considered before to have an option that "locks" the tags field, making it persist for subsequent annotations.
