Possible To Turn Hydrogen into a VST?

Open titus-shoats opened this issue 2 years ago • 1 comments

Hello I was wondering what steps are needed to turn hydrogen into a VST. Im sure it can be done. I know I would need to download steinbergs VST SDK. But as far as implementing the SDK in to hydrogen, and connecting MIDI function calls to the SDK, I'm not too sure. Can anyone assist with this, or point me in the right direction? Thanks

Hey @titus-shoats ,

There were already some discussions and attempt to make Hydrogen a LV2 plugin (see https://github.com/hydrogen-music/hydrogen/issues/442 , https://github.com/hydrogen-music/hydrogen/discussions/1026 and https://github.com/hydrogen-music/hydrogen/tree/H2asLV2 ).

I was wondering what steps are needed to turn hydrogen into a VST

This is depends on what Hydrogen as a VST plugin should do. If it should have the same features and VST is just used to provided more convenient input/output connections, it should be not too difficult. But in case some features, like the internal song and pattern editor should be removed, it might be some work to do. Is there a guideline or similar of what a VST should look like or what it should cover?

I also remember there were some legal VST-related issues on Linux. (I recall the name 'vestige') But I don't remember the whole story. We have to check it in advance just to be sure.

Can anyone assist with this, or point me in the right direction?

Sure. I have no knowledge of VST yet but if you are committed we can figure it out.
