References are not immediately apparent
For our database, we need a place we we can gather references to e.g. definitions of certain concepts within the various documents, and it seems like the way Uwazi offers is to create an entity for the definition and then from the respective paragraphs in the documents to create references to the entity. Which is fine so far. The problem is: For the visitor who is not familiar with Uwazi, it is not apparent that there are references. The "connections" tab can easily be overlooked and the main page of the entity doesn't hint that it exists. Is there a way to display the references on the main page or else to make it more accessible? Else I will have to resort to including a description which every entity which contains the hint that you have to click the "connections" tab, which is possible, but it is not really elegant.
@vasyugan thanks for your feedback. Indeed, text references is one of the most abandoned features of Uwazi at this moment. This pretty unfortunate since Uwazi was initially conceived as a document management solution and all the text handling functionalities have been buried under a ton of other features the users have been asking to.
Our plan is to revamp the whole text referencing feature. Part of the solution to the problem you are expressing would be some kind of embed code so you can actually render a list of text references in pages and entities (or anywhere you want).
I'm so sorry, but we don't have the time or budget at the moment to take care this in the short term. Its definitely part of our roadmap and will happen sometime.
On a side note: we are about to start with a new feature that allows you to render certain properties of a connected entity into another entity. Ie: you have Entity A, and you connect it to Entity B, but you want to display the property "Description" or "Author" instead of the default (Title).
I'll try to sneak into this development the possibility of using this for text references.
@txau Good to know. So we would reckon on this feature coming some time in the future. Currently, we are only in the process of creating a prototype, so for now, it probably doesn't matter that much that it is not particularly user friendly. If we get a second project phase approved, we might try to include a bounty in the budget for this feature (or others we need in Uwazi). But of course, there is a bit "if" at this point.
@vasyugan great, I'll leave this issue open to keep you and everybody else in the loop.
