Adapt tray icon code to work with notifications

After trying out zroya, it appears it's very similar to the current tray icon code, but has an unintentional side effect of loading a tray icon anyway. If I can figure out how to mix both parts of code, I can have the functionality added without the bugs.

It is unlikely I'll add notifications until I can get this working, as properly integrating them will still be quite difficult.
