Better Tasks workflow
The problem I’m facing has to do with the worklfow of tasks and the different ways organisations work. An organisation typically works in either top-down or organic mode.
In Top-down mode you would like to assign people. In Organic mode people assign their selfs.
Here is the problem: Currently the tasks list starts with the end, the checkbox. A normal workflow is as follows: Task creation - (Self-)Assignment - Start task - Finish task. The finish checkbox is the first thing you see and is often pressed where people meant to assign their selfs to a task.
My suggestions are:
- Make it possible to have a task list owner (who will automatically be the responsible user for each item). This makes it a bit faster to create task items.
- Follow the workflow Task Creation - (Self-)Assignment - Start task - Finish task. This means remove checkbox and make it an assign-me-button.
- Don’t hide the assignment en responsible user settings in the pencil menu but make it visible in the foldout.
- Show assigned/responsible users on mobile, currently they don’t show.
This changes will make it also better on small screens.
