Workflow automation ideas repo
As stated in the Hubot 3.0 milestone, we aim to
Modernize the project by translating CoffeeScript to JavaScript, improving integration with various developer tools, and adding features that make it easier for developers to automate their workflow.
In order to help developers modernise their workflows, we need to know what workflows they want to modernise. And while empathy is good and necessary, actually talking to people is better.
Therefore I propose a dedicated public repository for collecting and discussing workflow automation ideas, with a less strict process than evolution
, but with useful issue templates and a bit of guidance for submitters.
Worth discussing
- [ ] Since some of these ideas will be a bit off the cuff or not fully formed, and writing them down often reveals conceptual shortcomings, encourage authors to put those problems in writing too, by adding an
Anticipated issues
section in the issue template.
Yes I share the feeling that we need a simpler entry point for ideas. The current draft template for evolution proposal is very operational, and production oriented. It can be dissuasive for someone that only has an idea or a need and wants to express it.
Typically those ideas would end up in issues if we don't propose a simpler workflow as @espy suggests.
Maybe we could use issues on the evolution repo with an issue template rather than a new repo though ?
👍 I like this. I've been throwing a few ideas in https://github.com/probot/plugin-template/issues, and I know you all have been collecting a list. I like that it could become a generic "wishlist" for anything in the hubot ecosystem.
what’s next step here? Shall we move forward with the repository? We can make it private for maintainers for now and post a few ideas just to be clear we have a common understanding and then open it up to everyone and announce it?
