`^C` leaves zombies

If I terminate sensei with ^D, everything works.

With ^C, sensei sporadically leaves behind processes that eat up all CPU and RAM.

I am writing this ticket mostly for myself, in the hope I'll have the time to address this soon. (May be easier than learning to press ^D... :-)
