Using Blender Internal Procedural Texture Nodes?
Is there any reason or limitation on why Texture Nodes (for compositor?) are not registering its data into Growth Node? I tested a couple time of and keep wondering it would be nice if this is possible...

It is possible if I bake it, but then that is extra step?
I remember investigating this option and running into some issues. Can't remember exactly what was the problem. I think it has to be baked to an image and then used. The problem is with this approach is it's lack of scalability to meshes that are not planes. Will have another look when I get the time.
