iOS storage issue

Game or games this happens in

None

What area of the game / PPSSPP

It seems on iOS that if I delete a game (using the file browser/files app) this doesn’t actually free up space for the OS. Checking Settings -> General -> Storage I can see the space it still occupied (several GBs in my case).

Long pressing the PPSSPP folder icon in the files app under “On My iPad” and tapping “Get Info” also shows this same storage amount being used. If I check “Get Info” from the “On My IPad/PPSSPP/PSP” folder however this shows just 1GB being used (the correct amount as far as I could tell). I’m not sure but maybe PPSSPP is copying the games into a private folder?

Not sure if this is a new issue or not, I observed this running iOS 26.1 using an iPad Pro M4 using the latest PPSSPP version available in the App Store (1.19.3).

What should happen

Space should be cleared up properly, right now I’m backing up saves and reinstalling the app as a workaround.

I'm planning some improvements in file handling for the next version. I don't know what the cause of this might be but I've noticed that if you open files using the "Open" button, in the background iOS copies it to some temporary folder.

Did you add games to PPSSPP by moving them into the app folder from the mac, or what method did you use?

I think for most games I just copied them manually using the files app from the global Downloads folder to one of the folders under PPSSPP.

I might've used "Open" for some games though, I'm a bit unsure.

I never used any other OS when doing this.

It does look like iOS does a copy of some sort at some point though, yeah.
