Also for some weird reason second savestate slot is always highlighted in white after pausing

This is just the currently selected savestate slot to use when pressing the Save/Load State buttons. You can cycle through them using the Previous/Next Slot buttons.

The original post is definitely a bug though.

Why would that even be a thing if i don't even have those binded and playing on the touchscreen, I'm only saving and loading from the pause menu so if thats the case there's clearly something wrong with this behaviour, at least on android. PC is obv different, completly no reason for it to be highlighted in this case other then distracting and causing confusion

Found another bug, not sure if i need to open/migrate this to a new issue: Savestate thumbnail shows up misaligned and stays on the screen outside of a pause menu during gameplay for a moment if you keep selecting different savestates and back out of the pause menu, however it won't work if you keep selecting the same savestate over and over again, each time you pause and back out you have to select a different savestate and back out for this bug to occur. @hrydgard Video:

I'm on a bug hunting spree today! 😄

We always throw away all framebuffers when switching apps to reduce memory, minimizing the risk that the app gets thrown out. So given that, the first bug here is kinda unavoidable.

I'll look into the other reported bugs though.

Actually PC is the platform that needs this the least because of the presence of a keyboard. The next/prev slot binds are for controllers and touch screens (where you could set it up for custom buttons) where the amount of buttons are limited.

Of course in the vast majority of cases, using the pause menu is sufficient.
