Can not save game data
Game or games this happens in
Multiple - Metal Gear Acid, 3rd Birthday, Logan's Shadow
What area of the game / PPSSPP
Whenever I try to save my game, I receive the error "Unable to save data"
I have made sure that PPSSPP has full disk access.
What should happen
PPSSPP should allow me to save my game data. I just transferred over from RetroArch, where I could save, to the standalone version of PPSSPP.

Checklist
- [X] Test in the latest git build in case it's already fixed.
- [X] Search for other reports of the same issue.
- [ ] Try resetting settings or older versions and include if the issue is related.
- [ ] Try without any cheats and without loading any save states.
- [X] Include logs or screenshots of issue.
It's strange if loading savedata works but saving doesn't works, unless save state involved.
Save states are not being used. The prior data was from when I used PPSSPP through RetroArch.
Are only retroarch-created save games unloadable, or can you save and reload in standalone in other games for example?

- RetroArch created saves are loadable.
- I did a complete reinstall of PPSSPP and even changed where the system data gets saved and I am still running into the same issue.
- I cleared out my save folder to start from scratch and tried to create new save data from Ys Chronicles 1 and 2 and can not create save data.
I have the same problem, and I try change folder permission and do not work.
Does changing the I/O Timing method setting makes a difference?
Hmm.. Is this saving issue only happened on MacOS? have you tried other platforms?
i don't have issue saving game in Ys I & 2 Chronicles on Windows, but PPSSPP crashed when i tried to close it down using the [x] button while the game running
(I reset the settings to default before playing this game, so it use D3D11)
Update: actually just staying on the recent games screen for awhile then then closing PPSSPP using the [X] button also crashed
I have the same issue w 1.18 (2020 M1 MacBookPro, macOS Sequoia 15.1.1) attempting to save in Wall-E.

No issues in Batocera Linux v41 - I'm able to save and copy files over to macOS and it loads just fine (as others mentioned, no issues with loading - just can't save new progress (or create a new save slot) like I can in Linux)
The only hint I have is in Castlevania X Chronicles is error message is more specific: it complains the memory stick is "full" when I go to save. I have 50GB+ available. As others have, I updated permissions to world writable and still same error.
I upgraded to 1.19 on macOS (15.5) and noticing it is game dependent - some work, other's don't:
saving works
not exhaustive - just a few examples:
- ULUS-10064 - Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast
- ULUS-10238 - Crush
- ULUS-10576 - Fate-Extra
- ULUS-10160 - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
- ULUS-10438 - Fantasy Golf: Pangya
- UCUS-98751 - Patapon 3
- ULUS-10513 - Split/Second
- ULUS-10407 - Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?
saving doesn't work
complains "unable to save data" and leaves empty directories:
- ULUS-10277 - Castlevania X Chronicles (memory stick full error)
- ULUS-10312 - Juiced 2
- ULUS-10491 - Half-Minute Hero
- UCUS-98731 - Loco Roco 2
- ULUS-10495 - Metal Slug XX (gets the memory stick full error)
Based on other people's comments, I can only conclude that some games check for a full memory stick and others don't. (or some games erroneously get a "full memory stick" error when they shouldn't)
Notes:
- New to PSP emulation and PPSSPP
- MacBook Pro M4 Max - macOS 15.5
I ran into this issue with one game (Tetris) but then didn't have any issues with another game (Hot Shots Golf). First thing I tried was to give PPSSPP Full Disk Access, and that didn't fix it. Next up, I moved the Saved Data folder outside of a hidden folder (default is within .config). That did not work.
What did work, at least so far, was moving my saved data folder to an external disk. So I think there's some weird permissions/writing issue with the macOS version, though further testing will be necessary...
