Set highlight_bg fadeout

Is it possible to get highlight_bg to fadeout after say, 10 seconds? Purely an aesthetic choice, but would be nice for it to fade out to match background and perhaps you could set the timeout in the config... maybe highlight_bg_fadeout ?
