Fast switching of Rstudio sessions

Open jefferis opened this issue 5 years ago • 2 comments

I'm very happy with the ability to switch between Rstudio sessions in v1.4. I particularly like this because Cmd+Tab switching often doesn't work for me because I usually have so many apps (and Rstudio sessions) open that it's v hard to read the project identity from the Rstudio icons. I wondered if there is a way to make this quicker from the keyboard (e.g. shortcut keys for the choices / a quicker way to access the RSwitch app itself).

thanks for trying out RSwitch and even more thanks for taking the time to file a feature request!

(thinking out loud)

pondering cmd-option-control-r which will bring up a cmd-tab-like HUD just for RStudio and R GUI apps and include the project name with the icon.

repeated cmd-option-control-r will "tab" through the list and the last one selected after all the keys are unheld becomes the active (and, if needed, un-window-hidden) one.

thoughts?

That sounds like a really interesting option. A couple of thoughts.

  1. That key combination seems reasonable but it activates search back through previous commands in Rstudio on my system. I didn't know this before!
  2. I wonder if providing some other method to choose from the list (by number or partial name matching) would work also.
