A reusable django application for managing press releases and press coverage.
Django-Pressbox
This is a simple press item management application for your Django powered site.
Many projects I develop need a "press" section for their site. So instead of reinventing the wheel each time I've selected the features most share and created this reusable Django app. I also provided basic example app to get you started.
This app follows several "best practices" for reusable apps by allowing for template overrides and extra_context arguments and such.
Features
I'll add more details later, but for now the features are basic:
- add press item(s).
- add press categories to structure the display of press items.
- add images to a press item. (I suggest using django-sorl to thumbnail images, etc)
- add a downloadedable file to a press item.
- allow both press categories and press items to honor manual sorting if set.
- allow users to set press items to active/inactive to control their display on the site.
- a template tag to easily specify the specific press category (via slug) you'd like to display and then iterate through associated press items.
Installation
- add 'pressbox' directory to your Python path.
- add 'pressbox' to your INSTALLED_APPS tuple found in your settings file.
- execute ./manage.py syncdb to created database tables
- Log into your admin and enjoy!
- To customize the templates add a "pressbox" directory to your project's templates dir.
Example Site
I included an example site in the /example directory. You should be able to simply execute './manage.py syncdb' and then './manage.py runserver' and have the example site up and running. I assume your system has sqlite3 available - it is set as the default database with the DATABASE_NAME = 'pressbox.db'
-
From the repository root directory execute "cd example" to jump into the example dir.
-
Execute './manage.py syncdb' (This assumes that sqlite3 is available as it is set as the default database with th DATABASE_NAME = 'pressbox.db'.)
-
Executing ./manage.py syncdb will load initial data for you, making use of the initial_data.json file found in the root of the example project directory.
-
Execute './manage.py runserver' and you will have the example site up and running. The home page will have links to get to the available views.
-
The admin is available at "/admin". Feel free to play around with it!
