Problem description

I was wondering if it would make sense to make a user-customizable button for Shutdown/Sleep/Hibernate when a break starts? I have intentionally made my long break 15 minutes long, to have time to do other meaningful chores, and I use hibernation a lot, so I'd like to be able to put my PC into hibernation when I take a break.

I imagine the button could be one of four choices:

  1. None (not visible).
  2. Sleep.
  3. Hibernate.
  4. Shutdown.

I tend to use hibernation with lots of windows open, so I would like to be able to select Hibernate as the button action, others might like Sleep better, and so on.

P.S. Thanks so much for Stretchly, I've been dreaming of this app for decades now, but never really found anything that appealed to me and worked the way I wanted it to do. I plan to donate, but I only installed it like two hours ago, so I want to make sure that it works perfectly for me first, though. This request does not affect a possible donation.

Possible solution

I imagine a large button centered just above the bottom of the screen so that it is easy to click and activate.

Alternative solutions

I tried Alt-Tab and Ctrl-Alt-Del to switch out of the app, and hibernate, but that would defeat the purpose of the app for me. I need to take those breaks!

Sorry for late reply, GH is not sending me emails for some reason so I did not notice this.

So just to be sure, you mean buttons that would do the OS-level actions? If that's possible from NodeJS then I guess we can do it.

No problem, thanks for your reply.

Yes, perhaps by invoking the Windows/Linux shutdown command. I only imagine a single button that you can configure using the settings.

I guess I could configure my power button to hibernate the system, which I've just done, so it is not a biggie, just more of a wish.

I accidentally posted under another GitHub account, so I deleted the post and reposted it as myself. Sorry about the confusion!

I was wondering if there could be a 'Lock' option as well. Like @archfrog I too like to walk around and do other things during a long break, so it would be great it the app could lock the screen at the beginning or the end of a break for better security in an office setting.

I'm using Ubuntu (24.04.3), though.

Thanks for the app @hovancik, it is extremely useful :)
