I think there's value in focusing on one editor in beginner and pushing others to advanced guides. Beginner should just mention that there are other editors and link to advanced guides. There's also a new editor coming down the pipes :).

@lxbarth I think having one editor in the beginner makes the most sense. The other editors should either then be in the intermediate or maybe in an appendix. I think probably intermediate is a better choice though because we don't want to regular other editors to 2nd class citizen status.

We of course could link from the editing chapters in the beginner saying "would you like to use another editor we have materials on it here as well"

Also another thing is there is a certain voice to LearnOSM. Maybe we need a style guideline?

I think a style guide is def a good idea. Not sure how it would be written.

I am a little overwhelmed with other work at the moment, but I could try to whip something up in the next couple of weeks. Maybe in the evenings. It would be an outline of sorts that would clarify the structure of each chapter. Also, Kate and I discussed the possibility of having a Roundtable (aka committee) read through proposed chapters and accept or accept with edit the chapters... We should start recruiting. :)

@MappingKat I think a style guide would specify how to use headings and the type of language used, etc. Basically make it clear the type of voice and instruction manners we are looking. I'm not sure the best way to do it though.

Gnome has an extensive style-guide, I was thinking something a bit more concise, but you get the idea: https://developer.gnome.org/gdp-style-guide/stable/

Hi.. In my personal opinion, if LearnOSM is to be a one-stop center for training and learning about OSM, then it needs to have content about all the editors, as @lxbarth mentioned, i also thought about the Ideditor and was trying to look at the existing materials to come up with a documentation for it too, unless there's an existing documentation already.

If, Potlatch 2 will be totally phased/replaced by IDeditor, then it may not need to be included in LearnOSM, but if they will co-exist or if the Ideditor will take some good time/years before replacing Potlatch 2, maybe Potlatch 2 can be in the beginner, then point to ideditor in the advanced section.

@Douglo I think it is okay to include Potlatch2 in the new "Detailed Editing" section, but not in the beginner guide. If you want to rework this to fit in with those chapters, I think that would be fine. Personally I do feel that iD is going to be the editor that newbies ought to learn on, but it doesn't hurt to have a Potlatch chapter.
