Ideas for improvements
(c) 2018 Britt Johnston Future versions of the PiDesktop product I believe could be improved with some engineering changes.
- Revised firmware/software to allow shutdown to be handled in software with the same performance as when the power button is pressed.
- Revised firmware/software to allow reboot to be initated by a double button press.
- Flip the add-on board and reposition the Pi in the case so it provides better cooling (the current position blocks airflow because of the 40-pin header - requires HDMI cable (see below)
- Support an optional add-on micro fan
- Support a RGB LED that allows color of the power button to be controlled by the MCU with firmware changes to support modifying the color
- Allow the color of an RGB LED to be changed by the PI - provide headers to allow additonal RGB LEDs to be added to the case to light other areas
- Allow an optional window to look at the inside of the case lit by optional RGB LEDs
- provide small plastic light pipes from the bottom Pi LEDs so they are visible as dots on the face of the case
- Provide a small HDMI & audio cable from the side-entry HDMI connector to the back of the case
- Change the SSD to M.2 connector to use modern devices (likely for a future USB C pi)
- Add an (optional?) door to allow insertion/removal of SD card (or maybe optional rear extender)
- Add battery charging circuit to support basic battery operation
- Add UPS programmability using RTC and battery from MCU
