Thanks @lesteve this is super helpful. There are indeed a lot of issues with the make files not rebuilding stuff that would need to be rebuilt.

Well the problem here is that we're feature detecting your environment as node. Perhaps combined with various bundler woes. If you could give an actual reproduction it would be helpful.
