Request for multi-language support for documentation
Hello Hono team 👋
First of all, thank you for the amazing work on Hono and its documentation — it’s been incredibly helpful for developers around the world.
I noticed that the current documentation is available only in English. As Hono’s community continues to grow globally, I’d like to suggest adding multi-language support to the documentation site (for example, using VitePress’s built-in locale support).
The idea is to:
-
Allow contributors to add localized documentation through pull requests.
-
Automatically fall back to the default English version when a translation is not available.
-
Encourage native speakers to help maintain their language versions.
This would make the docs more accessible to non-English developers and help spread Hono to a wider audience.
If the team is open to it, I’d be happy to help set up the initial i18n structure or assist with translation coordination.
Thank you again for your great work! 🙏
@only9464 Thank you for the suggestion.
Quick response.
Regarding this, maintaining content in other languages will significantly increase maintenance costs. Fortunately, AI can now translate. I think we should not do it officially.

I completely understand your concern about the additional maintenance cost. However, I truly believe that localization can greatly help Hono reach a wider audience, especially in non-English-speaking communities.
Personally, I think Hono is one of the most elegant and well-designed web frameworks I’ve ever seen — and I’d love to help more developers discover and learn it easily.
If possible, I’m willing to continuously maintain the Simplified Chinese documentation myself (and maybe with the help of other contributors later). There are over 50 million Chinese developers, and a localized version could make a huge difference in helping them learn and adopt Hono faster.
Of course, to minimize the workload for the core team:
-
The docs site can fall back to English automatically when a translation is missing.
-
Non-English translations can be community-maintained through PRs.
-
Each language’s PRs could be reviewed by contributors who speak that language.
AI translation is helpful, but it still struggles with technical accuracy and phrasing — especially for developers who need to frequently read API docs or tutorials. Seeing content directly in their native language makes learning much smoother and more enjoyable.
If you’re open to it, I’d be very happy to set up the initial Chinese version and maintain it over time. ❤️
Thanks again for your consideration and for building such an outstanding framework!
