Companion app v2025.7.1 auto launches randomly on iPad Pro
iOS device model, version and app version
Model Name: iPad Pro 11, 2020 Software Version: iOS 18.5 App version: v2025.7.1
Home Assistant Core Version
HA Core 2025.7.3 Describe the bug
Since the most recent update of the Home Assistant Companion app, The app will randomly start itself and launch while I am doing other things (YouTube, Google, whatever). Even after a force close of the app. This is on an iPad Pro. The debugging event log in the companion app only shows “Application Starting” along with the timestamp and “Unknown” which I imagine that field is the source of the entry, based on other log entries I see. I’ve made no other changes to the iPad. No OS updates. This just started after updating the companion app to v2025.7.1 last week.
To Reproduce Random occurrences while running other iOS apps.
Expected behavior App only launches on command. Screenshots
Additional context
Seeing the same thing, and interestingly all the same software and hardware that is listed.

Had a couple folks on Reddit say the same.
Also experiencing on 2 different iPad Pros, 2 different users. iPad Pro 11 (2nd gen). iPadOS 18.5
Have not experienced the behavior on the app running on an iPhone, configured identically.
The behavior is new, in the past couple weeks. Definitely post 2025.7.

Can you share more of your App usage?
- Do you have widgets in use?
- Do you use iOS shortcuts that interact with Home Assistant?
- Did you find a pattern to when it is "auto launched"?
- Rebooting iPad fixes the issue?
If you can take notes of the exact times it auto launched can you send to me within your companion app logs, you can submit here: https://forms.gle/Uoqz127Phx4mMTpS6
Do you have widgets in use?
Yes, both devices with the problem have the page launcher widget configured, in order to move between servers easily.
Do you use iOS shortcuts that interact with Home Assistant?
No
Did you find a pattern to when it is "auto launched"?
Not yet. It was quite frequent late last night (like 3 times in 15 minutes)
Rebooting iPad fixes the issue?
Device was recently rebooted and still had the issue. Will reboot again.
When you comment "take note of exact times it auto-launches", you mean wall clock time or something else?
Thanks for your work on the app!
@robchandhok Yes, date and time so I can find something relevant in your logs. Can you also try to remove the widgets and see if the issue keeps happening?
You are using the testflight version, correct?
I looked at the app logs and just see "Application Starting" with "{}" as the info at the times when it happened. The only other activity is location updates AFTER the app launches.
I am not using the Testflight version, I can switch if useful.

No

No
Did you find a pattern to when it is "auto launched"?
It seems to be more common in the evening for me, but that could just be because I use it more then
Rebooting iPad fixes the issue?
Rebooting doesn't resolve the issue
I'll note times tonight and upload logs.

NO. TOTALLY RANDOM. BUT ALWAYS WHILE ACTIVE IN ANOTHER APP. DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN DEVICE IS IDLE.

NO

I see the same in the logs
After reproducing the issue, taking notes of the date and time they happen and upload the logs, try the TestFlight version: https://testflight.apple.com/join/1AlPbnLZ
The only thing is noticed, is it happens when I am scrolling or otherwise moving my finger on the screen in another app, usually vertically. It never happens when I'm not touching the screen

Interesting, that is the most common for me as well, though it does happen occasionally when I'm playing a word game and not scrolling.

Never mind. It just did it while I was talking to my daughter and the screen was idle. Seems like there is no rhyme or reason to it

@bgoncal Does that mean you have identified root cause?
No
Switched to testflight version, just uploaded logs your google form. forgot to note the time - look at 23:42. Hope it's useful.
@robchandhok I couldn't find something relevant yet, for now let's try something.
iOS Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website data > Clear all website data > Reboot your iPad.
I'm trying to reproduce but it didn't happen yet, yesterday I tried as well in another iPad but unfortunately it didn't happen either.
Can each one experiencing this reply back with iPad model, iPadOS version, and App version?

I'm wondering what would be special for an older iPad Pro? But seems to be a factor.
Ironically it's the only iPad I don't have.. I have older ones, mini, air, but not Pro 🥲
But makes no sense such a bug in any iPad... like, imagine if developers could intentionally open their apps as they wish, this is all very weird

Just updated the app from 2025.7.1 to 2025.7.2 and the problem still remains. This did not happen prior to 2025.7.1, so whatever mod was made in that revision seems to have triggered this.
If you join testflight you can still rollback to a few older versions of the App, give it a try to confirm that please @rgnet5. I am still not able to reproduce on my devices

@bgoncal Done. I've rolled back to 2025.7. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks.
Same problem under 2025.7 as well. It may be possible that I went from 2025.6.1, direct to 2025.7.1. I just rolled back further to 2025.6.1 and am testing that now.
I am having a similar problem, although the companion app starts up immediately after the ipad restarts. It's an iPad pro 11" 2024 M4 model. I am on app version 2025.7.1. ~~I can't really get any other details about the app or ipad because I am unable to minimize home assistant.~~
Update, I was able to get the companion app to close by putting the ipad into airplane mode with Siri.
