macOS 26 Tahoe App Icon Doesn't Follow System Icon Style
Device model, version and app version
Model Name: MacBook Pro 14 inch 2023 macOS Version: 26.0 Beta (25A5295e) App Version: 2025.5 (2025.1264) Safari Version: N/A
Home Assistant Core Version
2025.6.3
Describe the bug On macOS 26 Tahoe, icons can be made dark, clear, or tinted. Home Assistant's icon always stands out as clearly not optimized for these modes. A picture is worth a thousand words:
Default (no issue):
Dark:
Clear Light:
Clear Dark:
Tinted Light:
Tinted Dark:
To Reproduce
- Install macOS 26 Tahoe
- Install Home Assistant from App Store
- Change icons to dark/clear/tinted mode in settings
Expected behavior
The icon should look like the other icons on the dock. For example, the Books icon goes from a white-on-orange default icon...
...to an orange-on-black dark icon:
I would similarly expect Home Assistant to become a blue-on-black icon for dark mode, and so forth.
Thanks for the heads up, this will be addressed prior to the release of macOS Tahoe. For now we are not building using the new Xcode neither targeting the betas.
No worries, thanks @bgoncal ! Just wanted to get it on the radar. Looks like the new way of making icons is with Composer.
Also I am laughing that I accidentally called it "macOS Tahoma". Some kinda short circuit in my mind lol
Just pinging here, since Tahoe has been released, but the Icon seems to not have been updated.
We haven't released a new version of the app yet for Mac, I'm currently dealing with a certificate issue, but thanks for the heads up.
When adding an icon using Icon composer to the project it ignores the other alternative icons that exist, so those alternative icons need a version from icon composer as well, or the icon composer file needs to be imported just for Mac. I will create a task for it.
