Newly created To-do list names get changed to sentence case after saving

Open SeanPM5 opened this issue 1 year ago • 5 comments

The problem

Originally reported in frontend repo (https://github.com/home-assistant/frontend/issues/20440) and was directed here.

I noticed that when adding a new To-do list the casing always gets changed to sentence case rather than how it was originally entered (title case in below example).

The confirmation dialog in the frontend shows the correct text exactly as it was entered: Screenshot 2024-04-12 at 12 52 41 AM

But when saved in backend, it always gets altered to sentence case for some reason, which is unwanted behavior and often feels "wrong" at times: Screenshot 2024-04-12 at 12 52 49 AM

Besides brand names like iPhone, macOS, BMW, etc there's all sorts of other things like "Home Assistant OS Bugs", "WWDC Meetup" etc that look weird with the capitalization changed.

The To-do list sidebar will show the proper casing after renaming the entity from the more info dialog, but that's extra unnecessary steps when it just shouldn't change the users text to begin with IMO.
