Matter Devices Unavailable after some time (hours)

The problem

After update to HA Core 2023.12.1 and Matter 5.x I Matter over Thread devices (Eve Energy) aren't availabe after some time (some hours) of operation.

Restart of Matter Service -> does not resolve issue Restart of Home Assistant -> does not resolve the isse Restart of the System (HA Yellow) -> resolves the issue (for some hours)

The system worked stable under HA Core 2023.11.x and Matter 4.x

My System: Core 2023.12.1 Supervisor 2023.11.6 Operating System 11.2 Frontend 20231208.2

After 3 days with every day 2 system restarts (morning and evening) the integration now works since 2 days. Don't know why and how.

Sorry for boterhing you all. But this issue is still active. After 2 days (see above) having no issues I again detected the loss of connection to the matter devices. I then downgraded to my latest backup and all was OK for several days. I then saw an updated to HA core 8.12.3 which I then updated to:My setup is now Core 2023.12.3 Supervisor 2023.11.6 Operating System 11.2 Frontend 20231208.2

But agin in the night I lost connection to the matter devices: I really would appreaciate your attention and help. Many thanks Rainer

first of all thank you very much for the implementation / integration for Thread and Matter in Home Assistant. Also the newly made integration of the custom cluster for energy measurement for the Eve Energy Sockets is really great.

But sadly since last night I have been experiencing the same problem as described here in this issue. My Eve Energy Sockets (20EBO8301) have been unavailable / offline for about 11 hours now.

I'm really desperate as just a minute ago again my Thread Entities were lost with the "ERROR Timeout waiting for mDNS resolution." as you show. I wonder how this issue can get some attention from developers as it started with the Matter 5.x and HA OS 2023.12 update. Many thanks to anyone who helps. Rainer

In my case I created a work around by detecting if all Zigbee devices and Matter devices are Unavailable for x minutes and then restarting the "core_silabs_multiprotocol" Add-On. This is the culprit. My system is usable now and hopefully can keep using it until the Silicon Labs multiprotocol firmware is fixed.

But really after a year, one might expect that the Yellow / SkyConnect would have matured.

I'm using the following in my automation: - service: hassio.addon_restart data: addon: "core_silabs_multiprotocol"

It recovered my system since the implementation, 3 day's ago, each time (15+)

I am having this issue with matter devices, but I use dedicated OpenThread Borderrouter, not multiprotocol. It particularly seems to happen if I need to restart my main network a couple of times in quick succession., but can also happen randomly

I'm having this same issue on the Home Assistant Yellow. I have to reboot the Yellow around every day or day and a half to make my thread-based Matter devices available again.

@RaBuAc We're investigating some issues with the Matter 5.x release and will release a new version with improvements soon. It's all a bit slow/delayed now due to the holidays. May I ask you what border routers you have in your Home ? So, for example Apple household with Homepods or Apple TV's 4K or Google Android with Nest Hub V2

You are running Multi-PAN, which is still in the unsupported/experimental stage and we have a nasty bug that crashes multi-pan periodically. Our advise for now is to either use the thread only firmware for SkyConnect/Yellow (if you have an Android phone) OR just use existing border router(s) such as an Apple Homepod Mini.

@marcelveldt I have no other border routers in my home. No Apple, Android or Amazon or others.
