Showcase on Python.org

My Improvement

As a token of appreciation to @hoffstadt, @Pcothren, and all contributors, I facilitated the inclusion of a link to DearPyGui on the https://www.python.org/ home page. The link goes to the docs, which is in line with the links to all other GUI libraries on the same spot. Hopefully this will generate some more exposure and interest in the project.

Additionally, opening the >>> More link navigates to https://www.python.org/about/apps/, where the section of "Desktop GUIs" could also be updated with more information. Maybe someone could propose an appropriate entry for this page too.

Necessary Assets

Thank you! That's very much appreciated!

I'm not seeing any images/GIFs or code samples on https://www.python.org/about/apps/. Where would these assets be shown?

There are quite a few examples on https://github.com/hoffstadt/DearPyGui/wiki/Dear-PyGui-Showcase, so we could take examples from there.

And how do we submit all this?

Maybe showcase was not the right term on the issue's title. https://www.python.org/about/apps/ is "modest" and we shouldn't try to deviate from this, but having a short description linking to Dear-PyGui-Showcase is great I think.

To get the update live on python.org we need to raise an issue describing the proposed change on https://github.com/python/pythondotorg and one of the maintainers will pick it up.

In a single phrase, I'd suggest to use "Dear PyGui: A modern, fast and powerful GUI framework for Python". That's the first description on GitHub as well. And linking to the DPG showcase seems like a good idea to me.

Could you submit the proposed change?

Although I agree with this description, I think it is a little generic. I was thinking of something more descriptive, such as "DearPyGui, for tool development with GPU-based rendering".

"DearPyGui" is then going to be a link to a page that showcases it appropriately.

I have seen the following pages with examples:

  • The README.md at https://github.com/hoffstadt/DearPyGui (impressive)
  • https://github.com/hoffstadt/DearPyGui/wiki/Dear-PyGui-Showcase (mentioned above - equally impressive)
  • https://dearpygui.readthedocs.io/en/latest/extra/showcase.html (limited)
  • https://github.com/hoffstadt/DearPyGui/discussions/67 (not bad but certainly not the right page to link)

I think the most natural candidate link is the main github page, with probably some examples also added from the wiki page.

I feel this is for @hoffstadt or @Pcothren to decide.

I'm fine with either description. As for the URL, I'd go with either the readme or showcase. The others are limited and outdated.

If the core devs want to jump in, that's fine. Generally, they seem quite busy, so I'd suggest you submit the text and URL to python.org if they don't repond in a day or two.
