Playing or paused status from LG TV to MQTT?

Looking to get the status of play or pause on the in-built TV apps. sent over to home assistant. I have an LG C9 that is rooted.

I was trying to use this person's project which does do it. I compiled the app and installed it on the TV but I can't get it to start.
