Mac OS dark mode not supported (font color is black on black background)

The main text that appears black on white in Mac OS light mode appears black on black in dark mode (see attached screenshots). None of the text colors in the Appearance settings seems to affect the main text.
Suggested solution: (a) switch main text color in dark mode to white and (b) add a text color setting for the main text in the Appearance settings.
