CopyQ icon indicating copy to clipboard operation
CopyQ copied to clipboard

CopyQ often says <EMPTY> right after copying text

Open dwlamb opened this issue 2 years ago • 12 comments

If this is a repeat of a similar issue, my apologies. Searches of this issue were not found prior to this post.

Very often I add a plain text string to the clipboard. When I switch to the target application I wish to paste to and press Ctrl+V nothing happens. Opening CopyQ from the system tray the bar at the top of the window shows "<EMPTY> - CopyQ". The string just copied will display as item 1 in the clip list. It is necessary to double-click on the item or use the context menu to activate it again.

I can't replicate the issue. It is random and usually occurs with plain text from editors, a url copied from a web browser address bar or uri copied from a file manager address bar.

The expected behaviour is for the text to be active from the clipboard without instructing CopyQ to activate the item. The extra steps of opening CopyQ and reactivating the item is the major annoyance.

I am using CopyQ 7.0.0 Linux version on Kubuntu 22.04 running KDE.

Is there any error/warning or suspicious message in logs when this happens? (Open logs from main window with F12 shortcut.)

Do you use any "Automatic" commands? These have small "clipboard" icon in Command dialog (you can open it with F6 shortcut).

Same error on an out of the box instalation of Ubuntu 23

I will answer this question next time CopyQ exhibits this bug.

No, there is no error. It just doesn't capture the clipboard.

Where can I see the logs?

I think my main window is not even opening, have a look at the video plz

Edit: It seems Ubuntu's native recording creates video compression glitches?

The video is not very clear but I do see at some point the CopyQ main window did appear at the top left of your screen. While focused on that window press F12 and the log window should appear.

top left of your screen

omg, it can barely be seen, and I have to select "New Window" afterwards to make it show...

This bug just occurred again. Examining the log, it shows nothing. The last logged entry is timestamped eight days ago (2023-09-05). This system does not run Wayland. It still uses X-Server.

dwlamb avatar Sep 13 '23 19:09 dwlamb

@FeatureSpitter The logs indicate the app runs on Wayland - specifically this is infamous Qt warning on the system:

[qt.qpa.wayland] QtWarning: Wayland does not support QWindow::requestActivate()

Try launching the app with env QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb copyq. More details about the known Wayland problems are here: https://copyq.readthedocs.io/en/latest/known-issues.html#on-linux-global-shortcuts-pasting-or-clipboard-monitoring-does-not-work

I have almost the same issue and can not insert anything to CopyQ on Ubuntu 23.04 but it worked well on Ubuntu 22.04
