With the removal of the io.pedestal/pedestal.aws library in 0.7.0, I'm afraid this issue is no longer actionable.

I don't think we can (or should) detect that Pedestal is operating inside a container; however, adding documentation to discuss this scenario is absolutely something we will be doing.

My two cents - we should not be concerned with any of those helper functions; IMHO they add syntax and abstraction with very little benefit.
