Backlight can´t be switched off completely

the lowest brightness setting doesn´t switch off the display backlight anymore.

as mentioned here https://github.com/hieplpvip/AppleBacklightSmoother/issues/8 and here https://github.com/hieplpvip/AppleBacklightSmoother/issues/6 the display brightness can´t be completely turned off with the AppleBacklightSmoother.kext. This isn´t a hardware bug as the backlight can be turned off when this kext isn´t used. after loading AppleBacklightSmoother.kext there was a new IODisplayParamters entry called "brightness". Before using the kext there was only "bklt" and when that paramter was set to "0x0" the backlight was completely turned off. Now with this kext the "brightness" parameter is used and the backlight won´t turn off. Hopefully this can be fixed IOReg

I think that's exactly the reason for this kext. You cannot switch off completely under Windows.

Yes you can switch it off completely under windows. The reason for this kext is to make the transition between brightness steps smoother. But the dev of this kext seems to be inactive anyway.
