Hillshade overlay dominates map

When enabling the hillshade plugin, the shading dominates the resulting map completely, the actual map can hardly be seen. See here for example. https://maposmatic.osm-baustelle.de/maps/222312 In former time, hillshade overlay just added a bit of shading of the otherwise unchanges map. Maybe we do not respect the alpha channel anymore, or something alike.
