Functionality on MacOS 10.15.5 (Catalina)

Has anybody been able to use this successfully without getting SMCWriteKey() errors? I'm not exactly sure what to do with that error. Presumably, the SMC keys have had their names changed since this code was written, and maybe with the correct key it would would?
