Crashes on Start

Open vekht opened this issue 8 years ago • 8 comments

The 2.0.dev.6 version crashes on start for me. I get the following information from the "more information" tab in Windows whenever I try to start it up:

Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: NifSkope.exe Application Version: 0.0.0.0 Application Timestamp: 581444f9 Fault Module Name: Qt5Gui.dll Fault Module Version: 5.7.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 575a6ad5 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00058a90 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 0a9e Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Additional Information 3: 0a9e Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

I'm running Windows 7, if that's relevant. I can run dev build 5 without any such issues.

@vekht Can you open dev5, go to Settings > Resources and clear all the paths and archives you have listed? If possible it'd be nice to see a screenshot of all your paths and archives.

Then after clearing them open dev6 and see if you crash. And please make sure you have dev6 in its own brand new folder somewhere when trying this.

If it solves your crashing, add back in paths and test. Then add back in your BSAs and test. If it crashes after adding BSAs I'd like to know if you can narrow down exactly what's causing it, because I can't do anything else from here.

@vekht I've also just updated the release if you would like to see if any of my changes resolved your issue.

I also can't start too. My os is win10

@plumsky "Can't start" is different from "crash on start" so which do you mean? This issue is about a crash. If it just won't start at all, you have a firewall blocking the program, as NifSkope is trying to register as a URI handler for NIFs.

Did you try as I suggested to @vekht ? Open up an old version and clear your settings. Then see if dev6 opens up. If I don't know what the actual issue is I will never be able to fix it.

@jonwd7 When I open dev6, i have never install any version of NifSkope. Then I download dev5, it's running very well. Is dev5 trying to register as a URI handler for NIFs too? Or just dev6 do it?

The update and what you've previously suggested hasn't helped. I get the same error code as before, only difference being the application timestamp is different.

Was having the same issue with dev 7 and then dev 8 which I downloaded in the hopes of getting it to work.

Didn't resolve my problem, but going into nifskope.ini and removing any resource paths and resource recent lists allowed me to get the application working again. But after a while it started acting up again.
