sdl_interface unexpectedly crashes on OS X

Not sure if this is still being maintained but the sdl_interface crashes while trying to create a canvas on macOS Sonoma. I tried adding -XstartOnFirstThread to the JVM arguments but no luck.

The MIDI file plays successfully and I can hear the main menu music until I kill the process. Anyone knows what causes this?
