SafariStand on El Capitan

Open mdaddy opened this issue 9 years ago • 21 comments

I recently switched to Safari ever since I installed El Capitian. I had never used SafariStand, but a google search told me that safaristand can solve many of the safari issues -- issues that you notice especially after being on chrome for several years.

However, I havent yet been able to make safaristand work on El Capitan, and it seems like it may not be compatible yet on El Capitan.

I am sure hetima team will realease an update at some point that will be compatible with El Capitan. My question is, via any hack or trick, has anyone had success in getting the current version to work on El Capitan?

I too am dying to run Stand on 10.11. I'm thrilled with the many problems that I had with Yosemite that are now resolved with 10.11 even in beta and I'm just itching to have SafariStand back by my side. :)

I got SafariStand running on El Capitan, but it's missing my most critical feature: favicons on tabs. Everything else that I use seems to be working (e.g. Ctrl+Tab, ,+. navigation, download monitor, etc).

For those having issues running it, it is an issue with SIMBL and the new System Integrity Protection feature in 10.11, which blocks injectors. To solve that, you have to change your boot args to include rootless=0 (more info here).

Cheers.

UPDATE: Not working with PB4 (Safari 9.0, 11601.1.43) anymore… ¬¬_

Interesting @levifig. Can you write a quick bullet point list of what you did to make it work? I have disabled SIP properly and it is helping with my ZFS kernel driver issue as well as various others, but SIMBL seems to still not be loading this properly and so I'd love to see your steps so that I can do a sanity check here...

OK, I was able to get it running by following the steps here: http://rakugaki-tech.mods.jp/2015/07/post-256/

@levifig It is working ok, except one glich. When you right click on an image in a website, safari crashes. Did you try that?

@mdaddy that URL isn't accessible anymore, I don't suppose you recall the steps involved?

Any news? Looks like the steps are working out for getting SIMBL working, but any news on Stand yet for the GM?

ylluminate avatar Sep 11 '15 10:09 ylluminate

Thanks, works with the GM. However I also have the random crash when right clicking.

AdeTheux avatar Sep 12 '15 16:09 AdeTheux

@AdeTheux Not random at all! Happens EVERY time… ;)

Also, still no favicons on tabs… :(

levifig avatar Sep 12 '15 16:09 levifig

Weird, I only had it twice in about 1 hour of browsing — and yes I right clicked many times :)

AdeTheux avatar Sep 12 '15 16:09 AdeTheux

@AdeTheux Interesting… I get it 100% of the time I right-click!! :o

I'm seeing favicon for some.. but also closing tabs doesn't clean up where the tab was shown

BrianGilbert avatar Sep 17 '15 13:09 BrianGilbert

Right clicking on a link now also causes repeatable crash of safari.. regardless of if SafariStand is currently displayed or not.

SafariStand 9.0.215 Yosemite seems to work fine on El Capitan:

-except that the tab sidebar shows on the right hand side of safari instead of the left. -It always warns that it doesn't work on El Capitan when you open Safari -If you enable the "Hide Tabbar if Sidebar Exists" option and use CMD + W it will close Safari instead of just the tab

BrianGilbert avatar Oct 03 '15 03:10 BrianGilbert

Control-click on Sidebar, and choose "Move Sidebar To Far Side," in order to move the sidebar from the right side back to the left (or vice-versa.)

@Fofer thanks for that!

BrianGilbert avatar Oct 08 '15 21:10 BrianGilbert

@BrianGilbert I realize I am late. SafariStand seems to be stable now on El Capitan.

This link helped me: http://editeddaily.com/how-to-install-safaristand-on-el-capitan/

mdaddy avatar Oct 08 '15 22:10 mdaddy

No problem, @BrianGilbert

I also note that your 3rd mentioned issue is being discussed here: https://github.com/hetima/SafariStand/issues/39

Fofer avatar Oct 08 '15 22:10 Fofer

I followed the steps listed here http://editeddaily.com/how-to-install-safaristand-on-el-capitan/ but the Stand menu does not appear on El Capitan. Anyone else having this issue?

hellomeri avatar Oct 09 '15 09:10 hellomeri

Perhaps try again? https://github.com/norio-nomura/EasySIMBL/issues/26#issuecomment-117028426 is also a guide, but it seems identical.

I followed the Edited Daily guide and was successful. The current issues are crashing when right clicking on links and no favicons on tabs.

proteins247 avatar Oct 14 '15 13:10 proteins247

The same for me - no favicons on tabs in El Capitan. :(

ramusus avatar Oct 14 '15 18:10 ramusus

I have tab favicons in El Capitan with 9.0.217Yosemite, however the Double Favicons on Pinned Tabs issue is somewhat annoying https://github.com/hetima/SafariStand/issues/45
