Status and plans of Windows support
Hi, we're going to make Certbot usable for Windows in the near future and we're currently using Augeas for Apache configuration parsing in our certbot-apache plugin. Because of this, I would like to ask where the Windows support goes in currently and do you support or plan to support Windows now or in the future?
We're going to have to make decisions about the parsing library to use soonish, and would love to hear about your plans regarding Windows as one of the (possibly) supported platforms.
Open issue #476 gave me some hope that we could probably keep using Augeas for Windows as well.
I'm sorry for the noise, but we will have to make decisions rather soon. Any kind of answer describing where Augeas stands for Windows support now, and in the foreseeable future would be much appreciated. "We don't have plans to offically support Windows" is a completely valid answer as well!
Sorry again for the static, but pinging: @raphink @lutter
@joohoi I've heard people managed to get Augeas to work on Cygwin. I haven't tried myself. I have no idea what @lutter's plans are.
Thanks for your answer!
Ok, so it looks like it's completely a third party effort at this point I believe.
I for one hardly ever touch Windows server for anything else than bouncing to a Linux one… I'm sure we'd welcome changes to make it work though.
@joohoi as much as I would like to see Windows support for Augeas, I am definitely the wrong person for that. Unfortunately, that means the state of Windows support is likely to remain where it is right now (not in a great place). I'd love to get patches for Windows support, but as I said, I won't be able to provide them.
Thanks for the response! That's a bit unfortunate, but I completely understand. Our team doesn't have the resources to build and maintain the Windows support either :(
Thanks for doing great job on the POSIX side of the world though!
