Consider Viper Browser

Open probonopd opened this issue 4 years ago • 7 comments

Consider Viper Browser as a replacement for Falkon, because:

  • Development happens in GitHub, making it easier to collaborate
  • No KDE dependencies
  • Killer feature: Supports uBlock Origin lists https://github.com/LeFroid/Viper-Browser/blob/master/src/app/assets/adblock_recommended.json
  • Possibly does not suffer from the toolbar rendering bug

Can use Vivaldi browser as the default? Because it also has built-in ad blocking, the stability is also very good.

I think Vivaldi is only available through Linuxulator at the moment.

You can use https://github.com/mrclksr/linux-browser-installer to install it.

Preinstalling this on the ISO would consume way too much space.

I want to ask Viper is the default, so the default homepage is Ecosia or Duckduckgo? Because it supports multi-language, and it is a privacy-conscious web search; I prefer Ecosia because it uses revenue to maintain the environment.

First of all we need to get https://github.com/LeFroid/Viper-Browser/issues/27 fixed. And then we need to check whether crucial features such as internationalization are in place, or add them.

Why don't you just stick with Chromium? Or, if you want, ungoogled-chromium, if you're going for privacy?

@ninjadev64 we want a Qt native user interface and no Gtk in the system.

The browser engine in Viper and Falkon is Qt WebEngine, which is based on the rendering engine that Chromium also uses.

Oh, ok.
