Keyboard focus on Search menu lost when focus is not on desktop.

Open 69graves opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

When invoking shortcut for 'Search' menu, if keyboard focus is anywhere other than desktop, the focus flashes on 'Search' for a second, then loses focus.

This may be partially by design, as when I invoke the shortcut three times, the 'Search' box changes to searching the menu of currently focused application.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Invoke 'Search' menu shortcut anywhere other than Desktop (ie, Terminal, Filer)
  2. If invoked three times, menu switches to the app menu search function

Expected behavior If this is functioning as expected, perhaps it could be documented (apologies if I have missed previous documentation)

This happens when the application window accepts text entry. it seems to be a bug that was introduced by swtiching from Openbox to KWin. I don't know yet how to fix this, maybe some KWin experts know.

Workaround:

Press Command-Space for ~2 seconds. I don't know why this works, nor why it is necessary.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks mmakaba on IRC.
