Update dumping guide for external USB storage

Open KBBocchi opened this issue 10 months ago • 2 comments

Slightly changes the wording on the dumping guide to reflect the fact that external USB devices can be used to dump the game's contents as well and not just the Xbox 360 Hard Drive. Also adds a note at step 14 as the Title Update for the game is located in a different directory on external devices.

I'm not going to be able to verify whether this works, so we'll need someone else to run through these steps using an external storage device to confirm that you can actually obtain the title update using one.

I have seen a video guide using something like a USB flash drive, altho it did not use Velocity (still usable tho I'd assume). Here is said video btw

EDIT: I just noticed that the guide did not install the game's title update as well, instead getting it via a different source, but in the end it would still work as a viable way to get the game.

It is possible to dump the Title Update using an external USB storage. However, it is not as straightforward as dumping it directly from the internal HDD, and additional clarification is required. It’s been a while since I’ve done this myself, but these are the steps as far as I remember:

  1. Disconnect the internal HDD.
  2. Format the USB storage device as a system drive.
  3. Reconnect the internal HDD and transfer an Xbox Live profile onto the USB drive.
  4. Disconnect the HDD again (you should now be left with a USB drive formatted as a system drive containing your profile).
  5. Install the game and launch it to install the Title Update.
  6. Connect the USB drive to your PC and extract the Title Update from the cache directory.

I may be able to check these steps in the near future and commit any necessary changes.

Can confirm that title update can be extracted that way. Screenshot 2025-03-24 182810 Screenshot 2025-03-24 182851
