Would like to create a Dualsense icon set, any pointers for texture references?

I consider myself somewhat handy with Photoshop and would like to create a Dualsense icon set for the project. Where could I find the current existing PS3 and XBOX 360 button textures to be used as a reference?

Once your game is all set up, you can find the icons in the SystemCommonCore.ar.00 resource file, under the game directory. You will need external tools to extract the resources and recompile them back into SystemCommonCore.ar.00 once you are done working with the assets. I would advise you to use GIMP or Paint.NET instead of Photoshop, as I am not sure that Photoshop has support for .dds files, which is the way that Sonic Unleashed stores it's textures.

I started poking around with this as well, and in order to work with the ar file, I recommend following the info here. You'll need "Generations Archive Editor" to unpack the ar file, but also "QuickBMS" and the Xcompress script (near the bottom of the script download list on the QuickBMS page) to first decompress the ar file for GAE to be able to read it. Decompress it, then change the ending of the file game back to ".ar.00" and GAE will open it just fine.

I shouldn't have said Photoshop, I actually use the Affinity suite I just figured Photoshop would be most commonly known, I edited DDS Textures before so that part isn't new to me.

Thanks both of you, I managed to successfully extract SystemCommonCore.ar.00 although the textures there only seem to contain the XBOX 360 files. Are the PS3 textures stored somewhere else?

I actually have some Dualsense assets lying around! They were intended for a Remastered UI update but I never got around to publishing it. Nintendo Switch too if that's needed

I've been messing around with changing the button textures myself and it seems if you replace the texture (at least using Hedge Mod Manager) it will replace the buttons no matter what you have selected in the settings. Stuff like the button prompts in the settings menu and the Achievements button don't use the texture in SystemCommonCore.ar.00 and I'm not sure if they can be edited or not.

If you just need the file for reference, here it is:

I just ripped it from a PS3 copy of the game.

@MANGOM1LK Maybe we could collaborate on this? A Switch icon set would be nice too.

@ThatRozebudDude That's exactly what I needed thank you! It's good to know that it's easy to replace this with the mod manager but given that we have a native PC version now I still think it would be nice to have all possible controller icons selectable in-game.

please also make a variant that has the colored face buttons, those with dualsense's start and select are the most readable controller prompts

I would like to help with modding the buttons in when you're finished, just incase if you need help

Seems the necessary texture was found, closing.
